Victory for Washington State University! WSU beats UW in 2007 Apple Cup

Earlier tonight, the 100th year of the annual Apple Cup once again undoubtedly re-newed and like always, fueled more animosity between the already intense century year old rivalry between Washington State University (my school) and the University of Washington.

Score: WSU 42, UW 35.

For those who don't know, the Apple Cup is the annual college football game between the two largest universities in Washington and cross-state rivals, the University of Washington (UW) Huskies and the Washington State University (WSU) Cougars. Traditionally, it was the final game of the regular season, played on the Saturday preceding Thanksgiving at Husky Stadium in Seattle during odd years, and WSU's Martin Stadium in Pullman during even years. This year however, the game was played after Thanksgiving.

This year both football teams entered the 2007 Apple Cup being non-ranked and one of the bottom teams in Pac-10 conference. The last year that both teams played in the Apple Cup as powerhouses in the Pac-10 was back in 2001 when WSU was nationally ranked at #9 and UW was ranked #16.

Anyway, so once again, WSU has beaten UW in the 2007 Apple Cup with a final score of 42-35 at Husky Stadium in Seattle.

Also thank you Alex Brink (WSU quarterback) who has passed for 10,514 yards and 71 touchdowns here at WSU, joining only six others in Pac-10 Conference history to reach such heights. I know WSU couldn't qualify for a bowl game (again) but Brinks is the first WSU quarterback to beat UW 3 times in their carreer. Hey, kicking UW's ass in their own territory is good enough for me, but we'd much rather have a team reminiscent of the glory days of 2001-2003 any day. Brinks' numbers are definitely up their with WSU quarterback greats Jason Gesser, Drew Bledsoe and Ryan Leaf.

What a nice way to end a not so nice season. GO COUGS!
